Cinghiale Vineyard
Fort Ross-Seaview Sonoma Coast
The “Cinghiale” (Italian for wild boar) Vineyard is named for the frequent inhabitants of the property, and was purchased in 2004. Overlooking the Pacific Ocean, it consists of 359 acres at the top of King Ridge in the Sonoma Coast appellation, and is planted with 43 acres of pinot noir, syrah, chardonnay, and sauvignon blanc. In an effort to highlight the award-winning terroir, it features a variety of pinot noir and chardonnay clones with lineages hailing from the top vineyards in Burgundy, as well as select top-rated clones from its neighbors in California.
Chardonnay: This blend represents the entirety of the Cinghiale Vineyard using selections from all of our Chardonnay blocks. This includes the Hyde, Dijon, and 809 clones. The heady nose is full of sweet floral notes of fresh paper whites, honeyed citrus zest, and crème brûlée. Background notes of vanilla bean and ground nutmeg frame the compelling minerality of wet river stones. This generous wine definitely delivers on the palate with its rich and viscous mouthfeel and seamless finish.
Pinot Noir: Is a complex blend of wonderful clonal selections we have planted at Cinghiale. We benefit from unique and intriguing attributes from our blocks of 828, “La Tache”, 777, 667, 115, Swan, Calera, 23A, and 2A. It is no surprise we are able to craft a wine with such depth that it seemingly offers something new each time it is approached. Enjoy sweet aromas of ripe raspberry and rich dark cherry. Notice wonderful Pinot character of fresh tea leaves and bergamot orange interact with aromas of fresh soil, forest floor, and mushrooms. And spicy expressions of cardamom, allspice, and fennel are just some of the many highlights that come and go as you experience the wine.
Sonoma Coast Sauv Blanc: The Sauvignon Blanc from the Sonoma Coast benefits from great sunshine and rocky soils which gives the wine a very tropical and fruity vibrancy that is full of white peach aromas, lycée fruit, and various tropical notes highlighted by spicy notes of lime zest, clove with a hint of slate and flint minerality. Fermented and aged in neutral oak barrels, the palate has wonderful texture for a Sauvignon Blanc but maintains its varietal crispness. This is truly an outstanding Sauvignon Blanc from our Cinghiale, Sonoma Coast vineyard.
Rosé of Pinot Noir is a wonderfully concentrated Rosé that exhibits the classic fresh strawberry, rose petal, and perfumed flower aromas, but has additional layers of champagne lees and a distinct minerality reminiscent of the gold ridge soils that the vineyard thrives in.
