Tasting Notes:

The American oak carved and grooved barrel seems to be an incredible convergence between the French and American oak characteristics.  These trees are primarily sourced from the Chippewa national forest bordering Minnesota and Canada.  Due to the cooler climate, this creates slow growing tighter grain wood that has nuances of American oak along with a fantastic elongated finish typically associated with French oak.  The nose is sultry and impressive with notes of butterscotch, dried red fruits, peppercorn and mixed nuts.  The palate is extracted yet clean, upfront tannin structure lends itself to a lengthier finish than it's other American oak counterparts.  There are layers of flavors including strawberry shortcake, tobacco leaf, coconut meat and almond dust.  This is a perfect wine for those who always enjoy the Del Dotto Pepsi Coke challenge barrel side by side!
