Vineyard 887 – St. Helena Appellation – Single Vineyard
Located on the south end of the St. Helena Appellation, Vineyard 887 is one of the highest rated vineyards in Napa Valley. This beautiful vineyard consists of nine acres of cabernet sauvignon, planted in 2000. This vineyard shows the typical St. Helena characteristics of lush, fruity berries, with easily accessible tannins on the palate.
Vineyard 887 is planted in 100% Cabernet Sauvignon with 5’x 7′ row spacing with deep, rich, sandy loam soils located on the west side of the valley floor in the south part of the St. Helena appellation. The vines are unilateral cordons on a VSP (vertical shoot placement) trellis system with an East-West row alignment. The typical production is 2.5-3 tons per acre. Wine characteristics are concentrated, black fruit with a rich earthy core.
The vineyard is yielded in 3 separate blocks as they ripen slightly different. All 3 are valley floor and have the most sweet dark blue fruit (blueberry and blackberry) of all Del Dotto properties. South is the sweetest, the North the greatest earth tones, and the Front is the most effected (and benefits) with strong oak treatments.
Vineyard 887 is offered as a barrel blend of French Oaks to make the best representation of the vineyard and vintage as we do each year, which results in a complex and layered wine. We have a selection of the individual French Oak single barrels as well as our American Oak selections.
